General Information
Convection is a new event in Southern California designed to be a fire spinner's retreat weekend that will offer workshops and classes on various types of fire arts. Our main focus is to improve the safety of the community, as well as to improve our own flow.
Arrival:
We will open the gates on Friday morning at 11 a.m. and direct all participants to where you can park your vehicles and where you can set up your tents.
Workshops:
There will be workshops and classes all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We will offer yoga in the mornings for those who wish to join, as well. Information about our workshops, as well as an opportunity for you to volunteer to teach one (or several) should you wish to, is available on the Workshops page. We encourage you to jump in and take as many workshops as you want to, but we don't want you to burn yourself out (ha!) either.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be several "Safety Workshops" throughout the weekend. It is mandatory that you take at least one of them if you wish to spin fire.If you've been spinning with fire for years and years, think of this as an opportunity to share your wealth of knowledge with the new folk.
Fire!
All three nights being dedicated to fire spin jams. Each night will have unique events to begin the spin jam, after which we will open the pit to any and all who wish to light up. More info as the date nears.
Drums:
We hope to have facilitated drum circles, bring your drums!
Leave No Trace:
Please respect the "Leave no trace" principles so that we can use this site continually and pack out more then you packed in. Even if it's not yours. This includes, but is not limited to, your cooking/eating/food supplies, wrappers, packaging, used or discarded...personal items, and more.
Ticket Pricing
Tickets are $55, there are 500 available, and will only be sold in advance. Some will be reserved for crew and Teachers. This year, all Instructors will be given a referral code. This code can save you $5 off your ticket price. Think of it as a "vote" for your favorite teacher.
Admission:
Convection is an 18+ event. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
We strongly suggest leaving all pets at home. There are many animals onsite already and territorial issues may arise. All animals attending MUST be leashed.
Volunteering:
We ask that everyone who buys a ticket find at least one slot of volunteer activity you feel you can contribute to the event over the course of the weekend. It is all of us working together that makes this event happen and keeps the price low. Why not sign up to volunteer when you buy your ticket?
Food:
There will be a Vegan food truck on site available for you to purchase food from. Please bring cash for this.
Beyond that, please bring your own food. Coordinate with friends! :)
Camping:
You can drive very close to your camping spot to load/unload. Cars are parked away from the camping areas (unless you're camping IN your car). RV's are discouraged.
NOTE: The site has cell signal, although strength may vary by carrier.
